It's been a while since our last Maggie update, and although many of you have heard what's happening with the project through other channels, such as the OS/CWC All Staff Hui and Board Member updates, we've recently reached a significant milestone that we wanted to ensure you were aware of.

Project Progress - we made it!

As you all know, there were two main deliverables for the project:

  1. End of August - delivery of the plan to operationalise collaboration between Canterbury West Coat and Otago Southland Divisions.

  2. End October - delivery of the business case for unification.

We're thrilled to let you all know that the second deliverable has been met!

It's been a busy time since meeting the first deliverable at the end of August, and alongside the change process to operationally align the Otago Southland and Canterbury West Coast Divisions, we made steady progress on the business case for unification of the four South Island Cancer Societies.

The Business Case was presented to the four South Island Boards in a joint meeting on 26 October, and the document is now with the Boards for their consideration. Over the coming weeks we will be liaising with each of them to ensure they have all the information they need to support their decision making process, as well as determining the next steps and timeframes.

While this phase of the project is nearing completion, Project Maggie isn't over by any means, and we'll be sharing further information with you as we move into this next phase, and the next steps and timeframes become clear.

Maggie website - new content is here!

In previous updates we talked about the plan for a 'Who's Who' section on our Maggie site, so you could get to know your South Island colleagues. We've decided to "PIVOT!" (Geller R, 1999, Friends S5E16) and rather than adding everyone's photos and bio's we've created some 'At a Glance' pages with information on each Division and Centre. We will keep adding to these so if you have something interesting to share about your region, send it through and we can add it up. Thank you to the Kaimahi Advisory Group for all their effort in pulling this information together.

That's it for this update. Remember, if you have questions or want to talk about anything Maggie related, get in touch and lets chat!

Well hello there. It's great to be back in touch with you all again, with the latest and greatest on all things Maggie!

Project Progress - we're on track.

We're mid-way into the project now and are still on track to meet the two deliverables:

  1. End of August - delivery of the plan to operationalise collaboration between Canterbury West Coat and Otago Southland Divisions.

  2. End October - delivery of the business case for unification.

The focus since our last update has been on the finance, systems and technology analysis, to map our current state, identify future opportunities and validate the benefits of this transformation. One of the common themes in the kaimahi workshops was the desire for singular tech, systems and processes that supported us to deliver a more consistent, streamlined experience for our Clients. So this piece of work was pretty important!

To ensure that we get it right, the fabulous Jasmin Hill joined us on Monday this week, to support the Technology & Systems workstream. Jasmin brings with her a background in tech and healthcare and is the perfect person to support us with this mahi. As well as supporting Project Maggie she's also working on the national Model of Care, so if you haven't met her yet you likely will at some stage.

Kaimahi workshops - what you all had to say.

We thought you'd be keen to see the output of the kaimahi workshops and some of the feedback and ideas of your Te Waipounamu colleagues, so we've put together a summary of the notes we gathered from the different activities. You can check these out via the links below:

The first thing you'll notice, is how similar the feedback was. This reinforced for us, the importance of this project and it was so great to see how aligned you all were on what you wanted for the future. You'll also notice a few gaps here and there - this was generally where a group got very excited about one topic, and ran out of time to work on the others!

We also put together a wordcloud, summarising your 'one-word' feelings about Maggie, which as you can see, were really positive.

Maggie website - new content coming!

Your Kaimahi Advisory Group are hard at work gathering the content for the Who's Who section of the Maggie website. Thanks to those of you who've provide a bio and photo for this. Each region is doing something slightly different so we're looking forward to seeing what they come up with! Once we have the content it will take a wee bit of time to get it on the site, so we hope to have this ready for you over the next couple of weeks.

Annual General Meetings

Next week is the Nelson Tasman AGM, followed the week after by Otago Southland. At each AGM, members will be introduced to Maggie and learn about the 'why' for the project. Each of the AGM's will be doing this in a slightly different way, based on their region and members and the way they prefer to communicate with them. We can't wait for them to hear about Maggie and what we are seeking to achieve for their communities.

Thanks for taking the time to read this latest update. If you are keen to know more about anything you've read about today, or have a question about the project in general, get in touch with me or your kaimahi advisory group representative at any time - we'd love to chat!

I hope you’ve all had a great couple of weeks and are staying warm and dry in your part of our beautiful, snow-capped island.

I had the pleasure of spending a very sunny, warm few days up in Nelson last week, hanging out with the Nelson Tasman and Marlborough crew for their kaimahi workshop. They’re a lively, innovative bunch up there, doing some very cool things and so along with a lot of fun and laughter I learnt a lot – thank you Michelle and the team for being such great hosts and making Nic and I feel so welcome.

Here’s a couple of pics of the team hard at work, sharing their ideas and views on the future.

Now all the workshops are complete, we’ll collate the information gathered and put this up on the Maggie site. What was evident in all three workshops is how aligned you are on what you want for the future and how working as one can help us achieve this. Look out for more information on this on the Maggie site later next week.

The Kaimahi Advisory Group met this week, and their focus for the next two weeks is on gathering content for the Who’s Who page, and getting familiar with some other members of Maggie’s whānau so we can introduce you to them soon.

Right now, there’s a lot of work happening behind the scenes to map our current state and gather requirements for the future, to validate the benefits of working together and what other opportunities exist for us as a single entity. This has meant gathering and analysing data and information on things like finance, structure, technology, systems, processes and service activity levels. A huge thank you to everyone who’s helping to provide this information, it is very much appreciated!

We’re now well into the project so it’s timely to look back at the dates we’re working towards. As you know, we’ve got two major milestones for Maggie:

  1. End of August – delivery of the plan to operationalise collaboration between Canterbury West Coast and Otago Southland Divisions, to the two Boards for decision.

  2. End October – delivery of the business case for unification, to the four Boards for decision whether to progress to member vote.

We’re on track to meet these milestones and look forward to sharing further updates with you as we progress further.

Over the coming months the various Annual General Meetings will be taking place around the regions. These meetings will enable us to engage with members and introduce them to Maggie properly for the first time, which we can't wait to do.

That’s it for this update. As always, if you have questions or ideas, then get in touch to let us know or have a chat to your leader or Kaimahi Advisory Group member.
